What is Herbilax?
Herbilax Smoothens, softens & regulates the stools gently, it’s a phytopharmaceutical for the treatment of occasional constipation. Principal ingredient of Herbilax is Cassia senna. Senna is a natural medicine containing sennosides that are derived from the leaves of the senna plant.
Where Herbilax is used?
Occasional constipation, suitable for bowel regulation in pregnancy & bedridden patients, useful for soft evacuation in haemorrhoidal patients.
How does Herbilax works?
Herbilax is a stimulant laxative, the effect is primarily caused by the influence on the motility of the colon by inhibiting stationary and stimulating propulsive contractions, this results in an accelerated intestinal passage and, because of the shortened contact time, a reduction in liquid absorbed through the intestine which cause easy elimination of stool from body.
What are unwanted effects of Herbilax?
Senna is generally safe within therapeutic dose and prescribed duration, over dosage and undue extended use may result in hypersensitivity, gastrointestinal disturbances, long-term use leads to loss of electrolytes.
Does Herbilax has drug interaction?
Within the therapeutic dose almost no hazardous drug interactions. Concomitant use of indomethacin & nifidepine may reduce the efficacy of senna.
When Herbilax must not be used?
Stimulating laxatives must not be used over a long period (more than 1 – 2 weeks) without medical advice. Herbilax is not to be administered in the presence of intestinal obstruction, acute inflammatory intestinal diseases or appendicitis.
