Maintenance of Good Health

Principal ingredient of Narmotense, Rauwolfia serpentina; A Hypotensive of Peripheral Sympathetic Inhibitor’s class, safe at low therapeutic doses, especially when the Whole herb is used. Alkaloids are not the only hypotensive constituent in Rauwolfia since alkaloid-free extracts exhibit hypotensive action. The use of the whole plant is advocated as a possible protective measure against known reserpine side effects (primarily depression).
What is Narmotense?
A balanced naturopathic hypotensive formulation based on Rauwolfia serpentina (Asraul), Coriandrum sativum (Coriander), Piper nigrum (Black pepper) and Santalum album (sandal wood).
Where Narmotense is used?
Hypertension & Tachycardia.
How does Narmotense work?
Rauwolfia and its major alkaloids probably lower high blood pressure by depleting tissue stores of catecholamines (epinephrine and norepinephrine) from peripheral sites. By contrast, their sedative and tranquillizing properties are thought to be related to depletion of catecholamines and serotonin from the brain. Following absorption from the gastrointestinal tract, the active alkaloids concentrate in tissues with high lipid content. They pass the blood-brain barrier and the placenta. Rauwolfia products are characterized by slow onset of action and sustained effect. Both the cardiovascular and central nervous system effects may persist following withdrawal of the drug. The active alkaloids are metabolized in the liver to inactive compounds that are excreted primarily in the urine. Unchanged alkaloids are excreted primarily in the feces.
What are unwanted effects of Narmotense?
The following adverse reactions have been observed with Rauwolfia products, but there are insufficient data to support an estimate of their frequency, the reactions are usually reversible and disappear when the Rauwolfia preparations are discontinued.
Bradycardia, arrhythmia, syncope, dry mouth, hypersecretion, edema, dyspnea, muscle aches, dizziness, depression, nervousness, impotence, gynecomastia & rash.
What are the precautions for Narmotense?
Rauwolfia products are contraindicated in patients who have previously demonstrated hypersensitivity to the plant or its alkaloids. They are also contraindicated in patients with a history of mental depression (Endogenous depression, especially those with suicidal tendencies), during or shortly after therapy with monoamine oxidase inhibitors; active peptic ulcer, sinus node disorders, ulcerative colitis; epilepsy; or decreased renal function; and in patients receiving electroconvulsive therapy.
Whether the Narmotense is recommended in pregnancy?
Use of Rauwolfia during Pregnancy & lactation is not recommended.
What are the drug interactions for Narmotense?
When administered concurrently, the following drugs may interact with or potentiate Rauwolfia and its alkaloids: Alcohol or other central nervous system depressants, other antihypertensive or diuretics, monoamine oxidase inhibitors, sympathomimetic (direct-acting) and tricyclic antidepressants.
